Installing a Sense-3 Kit - Layout
A Sense-3 kit can be installed into a wide range of assets, to monitor the oil condition of any oil type.
The Sense-3 kit is the solution to install multiple sensors onto the same asset and includes an IoT gateway unit, a hub and connecting cables. The kit is rugged with minimal setup requirements and configuration required. You then just add sensors and sensor cables to your kit to make up the system you want.
Sense-3 connects to the IoT cloud by your choice of WiFi, 4G SIM (optional) or by wired LAN connection.
The following guidance is intended to assist the installation of a Sense-3 kit into a number of example assets:
- Off-highway vehicles
- Ships / maritime applications
- Generators / gensets
- Large gearboxes
- Hydraulic power packs
- Fracking trucks / rigs
Off-Highway Vehicle
Sense-3 can be installed into various locations on an off-highway vehicle (such as excavators, dump trucks, loading shovels etc...) including the engine, the gearbox (or transmission) and the hydraulic system.
Typically an off-highway vehicle will require the sensor data to be routed into the cab area where the gateway unit is mounted.
Sensor to display cables and display power cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m.
Cables come pre-terminated with connectors for the sensor and the display.
Ship / Maritime Applications
Sense-3 can be installed onto ships in various locations, including engines, gearboxes (or transmissions), hydraulic systems, generators etc...
Typically ships or maritime applications will require the sensor data to be routed to the bridge or an engineering control room area where the gateway unit will be mounted, however the sensor cable can be routed to any location for the hub or gateway to be mounted.
Sensor to hub cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m. The maximum accumulated length of cable allowed on the system is 500m.
Cables come pre-terminated with connectors for the sensor and the hub.
Generators / Gensets
Sense-3 can be installed onto generators / gensets.
Sensor data can be routed to control panels, control cabinets or any other monitoring stations where the gateway unit can be mounted.
Sensor to hub cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m. The maximum accumulated length of cable allowed on the system is 500m.
Cables come pre-terminated with connectors for the sensor and the hub.
Large Gearbox
Sense-3 can be installed onto large gearboxes. It is recommended that the sensor is installed into a location where the sensor can remain immersed in the gear oil. Suggested locations are OEM ports, drain plugs, fill plugs etc...
Sensor data can be routed to control panels, control cabinets or other monitoring stations where the gateway unit can be mounted.
Sensor to hub cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m. The maximum accumulated length of cable allowed on the system is 500m.

Hydraulic Power Pack
Sense-3 can be installed onto hydraulic power packs. It is recommended that the sensor is installed into the low pressure side of hydraulic systems. Suggested locations are OEM ports, or into the oil tank itself.
Sensor data can be routed to control panels, control cabinets or other monitoring stations where the gateway unit can be mounted.
Sensor to hub cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m. The maximum accumulated length of cable allowed on the system is 500m.

Fracking Trucks / Rigs
Sense-3 can be installed onto fracking trucks or rigs for monitoring the fracking equipment carried by the truck. Sensors can be installed into various systems of the truck including the fracking rig engine, transmission and fracking pump.
Sensor data can be routed to control panels, control cabinets or other monitoring stations where the gateway unit can be mounted.
Sensor to hub cables are available in standard lengths of 2m, 5m, 10m, 25m, 50m, and 100m. The maximum accumulated length of cable allowed on the system is 500m.
