What data does the sensor output?

The sensor reports a number that represents the overall oil condition at that moment in time. This is called "Tan Delta number" (TDN).
The sensor reports a number that represents the overall oil condition
The sensor also outputs a value for oil temperature, which can be read in either degrees Celsius or in degrees Fahrenheit.

Any changes to the oil will have an effect on the overall condition and will therefore be picked up by the sensor.
By monitoring this change in TDN value, you can trace the degradation of the oil until it is no longer fit for purpose, using the oil for more of its useable life, in most cases extending the service interval by at least 30%.
Continued monitoring of the sensor data output will also enable you to spot anomalies in the oil behaviour, alerting you to potential issues or breakdown of the asset, so you can pre-empt and prevent a catastrophic failure.

    • What is the sensor measuring?

The sensor is monitoring the overall condition of the oil using our Full Spectrum Holistic (FSH) technology. In practice this means the sensor is monitoring the whole condition of the oil using a method called complex permittivity, which is a ratio ...

The sensor measures complex permittivity (which is a ratio between conductance and capacitance). The sensor does this does this by introducing energy into the fluid via a high frequency AC waveform Sensor induces energy into the fluid via a HF AC ...
    • Can the sensor detect water in oil?

Yes, the sensor output is affected by the presence of water in oil, therefore you can see the presence of water in oil quite clearly when viewing the sensor data. The sensor will see water in all three states (dissolved, emulsion and free), the ...
    • Can the sensor detect particles?

Yes, the sensor will detect particles, both ferrous and non-ferrous. Particles typically show up as a change in the oil behaviour, often as disrupted data which is not directly related to changes in the oil temperature. The Sense-2 display has ...
