Can the sensor detect particles?

Can the sensor detect particles?

Yes, the sensor will detect particles, both ferrous and non-ferrous.

Particles typically show up as a change in the oil behaviour, often as disrupted data which is not directly related to changes in the oil temperature.
The Sense-2 display has in-built algorithms to help identify data trends related to oil contamination.
These algorithms can also be applied to an installation into a third party system. Details of this are provided in our product manual.

    • Can the sensor detect water in oil?

Yes, the sensor output is affected by the presence of water in oil, therefore you can see the presence of water in oil quite clearly when viewing the sensor data. The sensor will see water in all three states (dissolved, emulsion and free), the ...
    • What orientation does the sensor need to be installed in?

The sensor will work in any orientation, however "nose up" should be avoided as any particles in the oil may collect around the sensor head and give an incorrect reading. "Nose up" installations should be avoided where possible and are not suitable ...
    • What is the sensor measuring?

The sensor is monitoring the overall condition of the oil using our Full Spectrum Holistic (FSH) technology. In practice this means the sensor is monitoring the whole condition of the oil using a method called complex permittivity, which is a ratio ...

The sensor measures complex permittivity (which is a ratio between conductance and capacitance). The sensor does this does this by introducing energy into the fluid via a high frequency AC waveform Sensor induces energy into the fluid via a HF AC ...
